![]() ![]() ![]() It would be best if we made a clean installation on the new Hard Drive. My recommendation will be as papusan stated. Specially if we are changing from a HDD to an SSD. Personally, I would not go with cloning the drive. Only if you feel comfortable taking out the Optical Drive disk. You would have to remove the Optical Drive and connect the hard drive in it's place. The Alienware 14 only has only two available ports for this type of connection. If I remember correctly, you had an Alienware 14 model, right? Follow the manual from software manufacturer, this should be pretty easy and get done. One of the most famous is Acronis, a payment software but there are many that are free. There are many good clone (ghost) software. Ps: It is always easier and clone a small Os hdd over to a larger one. It is better with a clean installation of Windows. I recommend never to clone hdd with Windows. Look at Q32 in The Hardware / Software FAQ for your Alienware / Computer. How difficult will it be to swap them around to make the faster drive my main and the slower the storage? Is it as easy as ghosting my current drive, loading the ghost on to the new drive then physically swapping them around? It's not something I have done before so I'm not sure where to start. It is better than what I currently have (7200 RPM as opposed 5400 RPM) The caddy has been ordered and will be here tomorrow. A coworker bought a 1TB HDD for his laptop, can't use it and can't return it so I am inheriting it. ![]()
